British Asparagus Asks Everyone To “Turn the Vale Green for The Gras” Including Tom Jones

The Vale of Evesham is hoping to go green from 23rd April in celebration of its venerable vegetable – the asparagus. Businesses throughout the region, which extends from the Malvern Hills to the outskirts of Stratford – have already signed up for the campaign.

Numerous iconic buildings in Evesham and the Vale are going green for the gras, including:

  • The Bell Tower
  • Broadway Tower
  • Almonry Heritage Centre:
  • The Fleece at Bretforton:
  • Raphaels Restaurant:
  • The Asparagus Man, Gus’s house in Badsey

 

Supporting the campaign is Buzz Electrical in Evesham who are happy to advise any company on how they can go green using existing floodlights or installing them especially.

But the focus doesn’t just have to be lighting, as Festival organiser and Wychavon tourism officer, Angela Tidmarsh explains:

“We want the Vale awash with green. Pubs and restaurants are talking to us about creating green menus and cocktails as well as using green tablecloths and serviettes. We’re hoping schools will allow pupils to dress in green on a specific day too.

Some hotels have mooted using green bed linen, shops will be decorating their windows green and charity shops are stockpiling donations of green clothes so there’s no excuse for people not to be dressed from head to toe in asparagus colours.

 

 

The sky’s the limit as far as going green for the Gras. Talking of which, we’ve approached NASA to find out how green we need to go to be seen from the space station. We’ve even asked Tom Jones if he’s free to serenade the start of the festival with a special version of ‘Green, green gras of home’ although he might be in LA at the time”.

 

Having just been awarded protected geographical status, Vale of Evesham Asparagus should be proud to go green.
